Replying to:spaceturtlesFor making the blocks below the player darker you could try using gfills to fill where a group of blocks are, do a little calculation, and get rid of some of the filled in area based on the calculation and thickness of the group. A form of antialiasing could be used to smooth out the dark but I don't know how to do that. I'm working on a sprite render technique for my game which allows near infinite (or at least more than the allowed sprites) amounts of things that require sprites but are only rendered with them when on screen. That could be useful for making things with light effects but you would have to rewrite your engine to impliment it.
Well to fill in a whole screen with a world made of sprites just render it once then move each or a few blocks each frame when moving instead of updating every single one per frame. Maybe.

anyways still working at it but i have like 5 friends here and its hard to program when we are playing smash and sub wars and ISZ and ironfall and just cause 2 and other stuff lol.
