I'm thinking a flight simulator where you can build your own plane with real-time aerodynamic calculations... actual physics applied to match weight, shape, drag, etc. of the plane. This is the idea I'll likely go with.
also very hard to do thoughI'm thinking a flight simulator where you can build your own plane with real-time aerodynamic calculations... actual physics applied to match weight, shape, drag, etc. of the plane. I'm making a heavily story-based game, that involves the player riding an elevator, passing several flights of floors; with the stairs being labeled with an "apparently out of service" sign. Pretty pixel graphics are promised alongside interesting plots. Is this okay?
5
: a brilliant, imaginative, or unrestrained exercise or display "a flight of fancy"
6
a : a continuous series of stairs from one landing or floor to another "Her apartment is four flights up."
b : a series (as of terraces or conveyors) resembling a flight of stairs

Sounds interesting. Depending on how I feel, I may or may not have a serious story ['cos you just have a long 'awkward' elevator ride with multiple people] , but I know for sure, It will be quirky and very imaginative.I'm making a heavily story-based game, that involves the player riding an elevator, passing several flights of floors; with the stairs being labeled with an "apparently out of service" sign. mine will be heavily placed on flight, or more importantly escape flight, you will command the military of (name here) to commence and watch over all rescue and escape flight, can fly an eagle jet or just pilot a drone to save teams, there will also be very good story, like you know how games and movies rarely talk about the people flying the ships and rescue vehicles? well in this game you go through the many trials that they do and will go through
a : a continuous series of stairs from one landing or floor to another "Her apartment is four flights up." b : a series (as of terraces or conveyors) resembling a flight of stairsI don't know if I have real say here but this definition is not the one intended by the contest theme. What's wrong with aerial locomotion that you need to avoid it?
I dont think it's about avoiding aerial locomotion, but avoiding the obvious definition to create a game that stands out from the rest. Obviously though, I don't have a say in nor know what is or isn't allowed.a : a continuous series of stairs from one landing or floor to another "Her apartment is four flights up." b : a series (as of terraces or conveyors) resembling a flight of stairsI don't know if I have real say here but this definition is not the one intended by the contest theme. Asked Random "Flight in what context?" I get multiple definitions, so I probably can get away with doing my idea. What is meant by "flight"? As in, what context of "flight" are you referring to?There is nothing to question. It's flight
Yeah. Pretty much.I dont think it's about avoiding aerial locomotion, but avoiding the obvious definition to create a game that stands out from the rest.a : a continuous series of stairs from one landing or floor to another "Her apartment is four flights up." b : a series (as of terraces or conveyors) resembling a flight of stairsI don't know if I have real say here but this definition is not the one intended by the contest theme. Having a game that "stands out" from a theme seems ironic.I dont think it's about avoiding aerial locomotion, but avoiding the obvious definition to create a game that stands out from the rest. I'm planning making a choice-based game where you control a person who will commit suicide by jumping out of a plane or off a tall hotel. However, neither of these really involve "flight" except for the plane and falling. Do you think this bends the rule a little too much?
Having a game that stands out in a competition makes sense though, and there are many ways to do it. If he wants to stand out with an unusual take on a theme, I don't think there's anything wrong with trying.Having a game that "stands out" from a theme seems ironic.I dont think it's about avoiding aerial locomotion, but avoiding the obvious definition to create a game that stands out from the rest. I love these contests random! I love them because they bring lots of cool new games to the SBS :D
There's definitely no harm in trying. I was just pointing out that a "stand out" idea in a "theme" in this context is kind of an oxymoron. But also, the loose guidelines on what is acceptable and unacceptable allows for that flexibility so maybe it isn't. See Différance. Anyways, good luck with your games/programs!Having a game that stands out in a competition makes sense though, and there are many ways to do it.
