  • #1 ✎ 265 NeatNit I think we need a thread like the Bug Reports one, but for feature requests or corrections not big enough to have their own thread; So here it is :P One thing most forums do with links in posts is to have them open in a new tab by default. Can we have that? Posted
  • #2 ✎ 709 Lumage Pfft the reason they do that is actually so they don't lose a -customer- to another location I would say maybe it should be a personal setting, but I understand it's common practice and people like it. The entire site discussion board not already for specific threads is mostly feature requests. It makes them easier to find. Posted

I REALLY don't want to sift through a minified pile of javascript garbage to add code which opens tabs in new windows sometimes. I'm sorry. As for feature requests, I don't mind where you put them. It's fine if people want them here, but Lumage is right about the site discussion board being for feature requests. Posted
  • #4 ✎ 265 NeatNit Alright, it's just a convenience thing anyway. I can just middle click or the like. As for the thread, I don't really care, I just thought that for small nitpicks (such as the links thing) it's a bit silly to open a new thread. I guess I should have named the topic "Nitpicking" instead :P Posted Edited by NeatNit

Hobbies Oof, I'm sorry to say that I am of the opinion that signatures are useless and take up space. The focus of a forum is on the content, not on some silly phrase repeated for EVERY message you make. Imagine if, after every sentence, everyone had some word that they inserted, teehee. It would be rather annoying and waste time to read through their messages, teehee. For me, it's the same thing with signatures, teehee. I want to make features that people want, but in this case, I have to refuse, teehee. Posted
  • #7 ✎ 709 Lumage You could argue that it's small and just one line of text, but then 10 or so messages per page and you have 10 useless lines. The text isn't that bad, but people always want images, and those are annoying and horrible. Posted

From the name, it seems they were originally designed to be an actual signature, like "~12Me21" but now they're just a place to advertise your stuff. Maybe we could have some text (about 32 characters) on the side, below our icons? This text is 32 characters long. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0oanqia0ev4rccf/example.png?dl=0 Also, there should be an option to automatically watch all topics you post in. Posted Edited by 12Me21

Yep, I see your points and I guess the side note would be better. Also, its annoying not knowing what the person replied it should be like miiverse: "If you post on something, you're watching it".

Yes, I'll get to this soon.

Use some kind of JavaScript deminifier or edit the source, then minify. Allowing creators of threads to close them might be useful.

Use some kind of JavaScript deminifier or edit the source, then minify.
This sounds like a good idea, but sadly that's not how it works. Minifying, as you probably know, is the process of taking a large code base and making it smaller by removing all human elements from it. That mostly means:
    1. Removing all comments
    2. Removing all nice formatting and line-breaks
    3. Shortening variable and function names to meaningless single- or double-letter names
There is no way to undo these actions. No way to recover a deleted comment, no way (for a machine) to figure out the original name of a variable, no way to figure out the meaning of code. All the elements that are stripped are stripped because they make absolutely no difference for the computer, so naturally, the computer can't even recognize the difference between minified and full code. Perhaps the only exception is the line breaks and formatting, but that's the least problematic part.

What are we liking and disliking? Thread posts? Comments? We don't get enough comments to warrant ordering them in any other order than chronological, and internet points are kind of petty anyway. I think a person is capable of figuring out if a comment is stupid or not lol. What would you use the like or dislike system for? I don't mind implementing it, I just don't think it's necessary.

Express Yourself I think a "Yeah/Like" system is great (both posts and comments). No dislike buttons please. There's no need to reorder posts and no butts will be hurt. The Yeah is to feel good/make someone else feel good, or to show approval/appreciation. Posted Edited by LohadL
  • #16 ✎ 968 randomouscrap Robot Hidden Easter Eggs RNG Hidden Easter Eggs Drawing I like to draw! Hobbies Yes but I'm personally against internet points. People start making lame posts just so they can feel good about getting a big useless number rather than saying pertinent things. Look at youtube comments; the comments that are actually good get buried under the drivel that fills up most video comment sections because people upvote stupid stuff. I don't want that to happen here. However, if it's a highly sought after feature, I don't mind adding a like system like lohadl suggests. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it won't work. So miiverse doesn't work at all? If I'm going to add a like system, I'm probably not going to add dislikes; it'll just have to make no sense.

The problem is, how to tell the difference between: A topic that is viewed very often, but only a few of those people like it and A topic that has only been viewed a few times, but every person who saw it liked it The problem with dislikes is that no one likes getting them... So, logically, they are nessesary, but in practice, maybe not.

Achievements Staff Pick "Your program is one of our favorites!" - Staff Achievements Pokemon Is Awesome! I love Pokemon! Express Yourself I'm voting for a Like system, but only show the likes when we click into a topic. My idea is that likes won't show up in the front page (unlike Miiverse). The only order that should be used is chronological, and not the number of likes like the program submission. "Likes", and not "up/down votes", should only serve to boost the poster's ego. Nothing more. To elaborate:
    1. Random already said the post order can only be chronological, so sorting by popularity is impossible and unnecessary anyway.
    2. Since the posts are chronological anyway, good or bad comments will get buried all the same. Hitting the like button should not bring the post up, unlike Youtube's useless top comments.
    3. There's no need to tell the difference between the meanings of like, as popularity has no bearing on the post's position. Since it only matters to the OP, the OP can interpret it however they want. The number of likes will serve zero indication as to the quality of the post, but I will feel damn good if I do get a big number, and will happily Yeah a post I like. Again, a big number should not influence the position of posts.
