Homebrew Thread

NeatNitCreated:
A 3DS mainly uses ARM11.

The ARM9 is the DS processor in the 3DS for back-compatibility. Normal 3DSs can't use it directly, they have to sort-of "reboot" into the TWL_FIRM mode.

oh, Thx!

The arm9 is actually always running in 3ds mode. It handles security related functions like sig checking and also low level hardware interfacing. The arm11 can "ask" it to do things through service calls provided the current process has the correct permissions.

@Trinitro I'd love that SB file viewer when you complete it. It works with menuhax, correct?

Of course!

I may use that lua crap when I get Homebrew back. Since I'm used to it. And all.

Wow, this thread is actually getting back on topic!

Oh, this is good to know! So it functions as a coprocessor as well, much in the same vein as the z80 in the Genesis.

Is it possible to use online features (SmileBASIC upload/downloads) without system updates? It's not letting me do anything online... :(

Nope, you need to update to use the servers. Don't worry, 10.5 can allow homebrew... but you won't be able to downgrade. I suggest downgrading if you're on <=10.3 then getting CFW to get EmuNAND.

I still have no idea how emuNAND stuff works so I've been avoiding it... plus I read that downgrading a N3DS was risky. I don't want to screw up my 3DS.

Theeeeen, update your 3ds and homebrew. Oh and ironfall won't work above 10.3.

I made an easy way to ROM hack 3DS games. I found the normal way a bit confusing so I made a couple of batch files to do the work and I made a tutorial for "Unpacking" and "Repacking" the 3DS game so I wouldn't forget how to.

Is there a link?

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna buy a New3DS and use my Old3DS for homebrew exclusively (for example, make the console load into the Homebrew Launcher by default). Since I will be super protective over the New3DS, I likely won't run any hax on it. Opinions? Good/bad idea? Better ideas?

I homebrewed my 3DS yesterday. cheers and applause

I may actually do the same - also using the older 3DS to test multiplayer SmileBASIC programs in assuming it will ever release in the UK.

It's a good idea. If I felt like buying another 3DS I was thinking I might. Instead I've been thinking about just getting a flashcart and a DS lite. EDIT: no piracy tho

Hax them both. Hax everything. Don't stop haxxing until you've haxxed the US government.
