BOOO! SmileBOOM put lots of time and effort into SmileBASIC and you can't even give them $10 (Heck, it was $5 at one time) for their product. Terrible.
I'm 13, I have no money to give smileboom in the first place (;

Congrats on breaking the law. Do you want a prize or something? There's a great one for criminals.
I've been pirating for several years now (nearly all of my life actually, if my dad pirating stuff for me when I had a PSP counts) and I still haven't got anything bad in return

Why would you be proud of stealing? And why would you ever tell ANYONE at all?
Piracy=/=Stealing if I steal a handbag from an old lady, she loses the handbag. that's stealing. if I download smileBASIC off the internet, the original copy is not lost. that makes it not stealing. learn the differences before getting all butthurt plz
hey maybe he lives in europe calm down jerks
also, this^^

In the immortal words of my number 1 reason to live: "this thread fucking sucks." _Nyap_, if you could perhaps cease causing strife on this topic, that would be much appreciated. You wouldn't want to make me clean the tears of so many children up, now would you?

Believe it or not, but pro/anti piracy morality discussions break out on random homebrew threads all the time on GBAtemp and they become an off-topic s***show, much like this one. Solution is simple, moderate the perpetrators and move on. Simply locking nyap out of the thread would be good enough (if admins have that ability, if not, it's a good idea to add it).

Closing this thread would do no good. It's better to keep all the homebrew scum in one place.

Ok, but in all seriousness. Calling homebrew users "scum" is putting up an unnecessary divide in the community. It also incites things like what _Nyap_ did. I want homebrew to back-up my projects And I just determined it's too late for my corrupted files ;-;

Why are we going on about this? "Homebrewscum" is hardly a derogatory term here. You're not supposed to take it seriously at all, there's no "wall" between the homebrew users and few non-homebrew users, and saying that one pirated Smilebasic is not influenced in any way by a title for a generally homebrew-friendly thread jokingly referring to that group as "homebrewscum." This is not an argument thread, it is a general homebrew discussion thread, and there are very valid uses for choosing to use it, and for that reason I don't want to lock this. It's all your all's choice that you kept going on about these things, when it would have been appropriate to just ignore it. If you're bothered by someone on the internet having different opinions than you and a forum thread calling you names, I can't imagine what it's like for you to interact with real people. Please do not use this thread as kindling. I'm going to start heavily filtering off-topic comments again.

I'm definitely a proponent of homebrew (while being fond of sb/ptc too), and I thought "homebrewscum" was actually very funny :p I guess some people just can't take a joke.

My 2 cents - I misinterpreted the title as being a statement, not a joke, and I never really minded either way (it just stuck out, is all). Knowing it's a joke it's perfectly fine... Then again, "Mega® Politically Correct™ Homebrew-persons' Thread ©" is as good a title as any! More on topic: how's the smilehax situation? Any news on the fix? + obligatory: any news for a europe release?

I don't think anyone gives a damn about smilehax

If that's their only entrypoint, I'm sure they do care. Not everyone has a9lh, pirate. ; )

There's no new information regarding either. The English part of the website (http://smilebasic.com/en/whatsnew/) has reflected the new design. It seems that they might be waiting on approval from NoA for the update delivery, which is... to be expected. I'd hope it's next week, though there's no certainty. The Japanese update had only fixed various bugs, including the BGSCREEN memory access bug that was exploited, as far as I remember from my glance at the page.

I actually meant "did they fix smilebasic so it's not hackable anymore", sorry for the confusion (the magics of going online too late at night!)

Sorry, yes, the hack entry has been patched. Supposedly they're also being more careful in general. Maybe. It's SmileBoom, so...

I imagine it must be pretty easy to overlook bugs like that when writing software that allows users to write their own programs. unlike a typical game where everything is in a more tightly controlled environment (where the users only interaction is through the controls and features you give them) a lot more has to be considered when making an application like smilebasic where the developers have less strict controls over what a user does with the software (still patchable but more ways it could possibly be exploited).

Not necessarily. Almost everything SmileBASIC does is in proxied ways. This one was just bad bounds checking and closer to raw things.

It's a shame the new browserhax/menuhax wasn't released before SmileHAX. Also, I meant to say that the uninformed person might have taken the old topic name negatively.
