Just me doin stuff news bulletin: i think i have a solid concept for a game but again i am faced with the roadblock of i don't know how to use basic. i tried the tutorials but i got as far as arrays and that very moment was when my brain shut the eff down. i could try again but i'm a little lazy at the moment so i'm kinda just sitting makin sprites n stuff. i think i'm gonna keep just doin stuff until i know some more about the language. i have a couple pretty cool ideas that i've formulated. first one is character select. it's basically just who's sprite pleases your eyes most but also who you play as affects the game in terms of personality. like you play the same game however you cut it but interactions with other characters can play out differently depending on who you play as. and if nonspecific game developed into a series, just as an example, if a direct sequel to entry 1 was made maybe it could be released as an update of sorts where it's a file that gets added to the folder for the original and you can use your save files from the first so the second game knows who you played as so you could continue the story with whatever character you were of course that would be fully optional. just some ideas that hitted me today. also i'll probably show off some sprites that i've made that i'm proud of soon.

small zombie boy

also his name is scout i just liked how it sounded

I like your style with sprites. It is a cartoon-ish style but when it comes to serious stuffs such as blood or rotting corpses, it doesn't hold back. I go for a more shade-ish style but I still respect yours. Keep on doing great work.
Also why is your sprites so... How do I say this... Gross? Like Scout is poking his eyeball out and the other two were rotting corpses of dead children...

i honestly don't have an answer for that last part small zombie boy probably wasn't the best wording there and scout is more pulling his eyelid down like he's teasing someone other than that i do not know you really got me with that one

I like how cute your style is. That's the only way I can describe the feeling I get from your sprites. I'll just let you know, your art-style is great!

thank you i have received a boost in confidence from this

this one's name is maurcie i guess and yes he does look kinda similar to scout. the reason for that is

in this case scout is like more friendly and a bit of a coward and maurcie is more cocky and sassy. if i get around to making this into an actual game that is definitely a mechanic i wanna include. is maurcie even a real name?

is maurcie even a real name?
the world must know

dang

kinda wanna change my avatar to this but i feel like koopa kid with glasses can not be replaced
a more proper explanation for what this guy is would be that he was based on what i remember the one mario creepypasta image looking like. please don't post it in this thread because i am genuinely deathly afraid of it. ok time to leave for another few months now.

gotta postpone my 6 month long vacation and ask: i have adhd. any recommendations on how someone with a brain as goofy as mine can learn this programming language? please help i don't want my silly stories trapped in my mind forever.

I can help program it!

I RETURN!!!!!!!! I heard about a cool little boy called multi thread programming. Sounds neat-o. I was wondering if there's a simple way I can do something like it in SmileBasic. Sounds like it might help me a lot. I wanna try getting back into it so I can say I've had programming or coding experience in the future. Also I wanna make myself a fun little game to play around with. Also my art has improved a lot so maybe I'll be able to make visually bearable sprites. So yeah I'll probably be hanging around here to see if I can get a grip and make something fun.

Ok cool I'll keep that in mind.

And while we're at it, any other knowledges could help. I'll try looking at some tutorials in the meantime. Last time I tried that it didn't go very well. Specifically I think I learn programming well through hands-on experience so if I could get a look at like some simple functions or something, like just kinda show me how you do things so I can mess around with bits and pieces and maybe eventually make a whole program.

AFAIK you can't multithread in SmileBASIC.

oh man

ok so my idea THIS time is called Adventure 2600 and it takes a lot of inspiration from Adventure for the Atari 2600 hence the name. im thinking something along the lines of zelda and maybe possibly having a turn based battle system but that might be dreaming just a bit. i have a bit more of a solid idea for how this one's gonna go like. it starts with a remake/reimagining of level 1 from the original 2600 game to get the player used to the controls and world and of course maybe not EXACT, maybe some tweaks to make it a quick and simple part to complete and then after that's finished the story gets set into motion. im really confident with this one so now all i need to do is actually make it. im not very programmingly inclined but im pretty set on this one so ill try my best and ill be asking questions here or maybe ill make a new thread but i wanna wait until i actually have a working thing before i do that so most questions will land here and ill post some development screenshots and maybe at some point ill get SB4 on my switch so i have a more relevant version of the software to release this on. so yeah uh im gonna try and learn some stuff and get back into a groove with this and maybe ill have something to show for it before next year.
