What would you think about unobtrusive advertisements?

Just as the title says, I need to see what you guys would think about advertisements on the website. I'll try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. I'm not trying to be greedy, I just need a bit of financial help. If I DO add advertisements and I don't make anything off of them, I'll remove them. I don't want to plaster the website with ads just to make money.

Yeah I'll make sure they're not blocking the real content on the page. And I hate video advertisements, so none of those are going on.

Oh my god, on YouTube, for some reason it loads a list of results, I click on a video, then the ads load at the top of the page, push everything down, and I click on the ad!

That's a good point; I'll put them at the bottom or something (if that works)

Donations are harder and the tax reporting sucks. Also, we only have like 100 active (registered) users here, so donations would be kind of silly.

Yeah, I guess that would be silly when only like 2 people might donate anyways :P

Everything on the internet has ads now, so adding them here wouldn't make a big difference. If it helps out this wonderful site continue running i'm down for some ads.

Thanks; I'm asking because I said I wouldn't add advertisements but now I'm going back on my word. I feel bad

You should add a couple of ads. I want to support what you're doing but I haven't a way to do so. I use AdBlock, but I will definitely whitelist the site.

OK I guess I'll wait a few more hours for some responses. I'll add the advertisements soon so you can see if they're obtrusive or not. I'm fairly certain I disabled all video/moving ads because those are just horribly distracting. Edit: I'm adding the advertisements now so you have a better idea of how it'll look. They're not permanent; if the general consensus is "I don't want them" then I'll remove them. But Persson has a good point: it's hard to judge something if you can't see them, and I need to make sure they're working anyway. Edit 2: The advertisements will be blank until my account is approved. IDK how long that'll take, but basically there's a REALLY thin, small ad at the top that has only links, and a regular ad at the bottom. Neither should push the content around while it loads.

I really don't mind.

This is good, as long as the ads are static and non-obtrusive. I think I'll be whitelisting good sites from now on.
