Smile Game Builder
SmileBoom Co., Ltd. announced at the Game Developers' Conference a new Windows software for making RPGs with no complicated programming.
The same way SmileBASIC includes prepared music and graphic assets, Smile Game Builder includes 3D assets and other materials for you: All you need to do is create your maps, define items, and balance the combat how you desire.
Smile Game Builder removes the barriers surrounding game creation that prevent aspiring creators from making their dream game. Instead of giving up, Smile Game Builder enables you to create games in an intuitive fashion with no need to worry about high-level programming, graphics, and sound. Simply using the 3D map editor to draw maps by inserting cubes, setting monster types for the area, and generating events by combining simple event commands.
Works you create with Smile Game Builder are yours to freely share, and are exported in formats playable on Windows 7 and greater.
Additional game-building resources are scheduled to be available for purchase online.

SmileBASIC
SmileBASIC is a programming environment for the Nintendo 3DS designed to be friendly and enjoyable for beginners and experienced programmers alike.
BASIC was a very popular programming language for beginners since the early days of personal computers. SmileBASIC takes this language and modernizes it to be even easier and simpler than other modern programming languages. SmileBASIC inherits key concepts from BASIC and evolves it for Nintendo's portable platform. Everyone from professional game developers to complete beginners have used SmileBASIC to create great games.
SmileBASIC allows you to utilize the power of your 3DS in your programs. That means stereoscopic 3D without any complicated mathematics, and access to the built-in accelerometer, gyroscopic sensor, and microphone data.
The most consuming part of creating a game is making graphics and sound. Thankfully, SmileBASIC includes a rich set of materials already prepared for you. These built-in materials are free for use in your program, including over 2000 sprites and tiles and over 100 professionally made sound effects and background music. All it takes is one instruction to play a song in your program.
SmileBASIC has a variety of helpful features for beginners. There is a built-in instruction manual that explains topics from the software keyboard to fundamentals of programming with BASIC. You can access it any time just by hitting the "Home" button. While programming, you have access to the context-sensitive help by hitting the "Help" button on the touch keyboard. A full language reference is also available online.
SmileBASIC will be available in Japanese, English, and major European languages, with no compatibility inconsistencies between these versions. The cloud backend is also universal, so as long as you can program, anyone around the world can use what you make!

Unofficial English Community: http://www.smilebasicsource.comOoh, it really says that? That's cool.
Nah, I wrote it as they expect someone to write an article with the information, sorry.Unofficial English Community: http://www.smilebasicsource.comOoh, it really says that? That's cool.
Spoiler
They did mention "many communities" though. No names. It's just in case someone steals my text or somethingOyeah.. this is GDC. Based on some of the podcasts I listen to you'd think it was E3 or some shit....No word on the latest sb update, though, eh? :( I hope this game doesn't get neglected with the release of BIG and the Game BuilderMostly because it doesn't really make sense to talk about an update when you're just trying to sell the software, unfortunately. It'll be sometime soon though.
The moment I heard it was just an RPG Maker I just sort of felt like...

It means they haven't dropped plans, as some annoying twitter users would have you believe. It might imply that they have finished translation, but there is nothing to specifically indicate that. Europe is definitely after 3.3.0 (March 31?) for obvious reasons, sounds like it might be before Wii U Edition seeing as there's no release information beyond hype for that and we know it's still very much in progress. On the other hand, they are very reluctant to give any release estimates or updates, Europe approval is super slow, and they *do* seem to have a lot of other stuff going on. I'd say Summer until further notice. tl;dr: that line doesn't mean anything, but I think so.and major European languagesDoes this mean that the EU release is near? I hope so.
sounds like it might be before Wii U Edition seeing as there's no release information beyond hype for that and we know it's still very much in progress.Didn't Kobayashi tweet that they were nearing the end of BIG development? I believe BIG was slated for Japan in Spring this year, so I think it will be out relatively soon, before Europe. Europe might be Summer, yeah. Now, BIG coming to Europe is another story.
I was making an rpg on SmileBasic, but this was announced. What should I do?
Making your game in SmileBASIC will probably be more work, but it will also give you a lot more freedom and flexibility to do whatever you want. SmileGAME Builder looks pretty limited to me, and I really don't see any reason to choose it over any of the already existing RPG makers if you're going to use one.
