I have decided to try Smile BASIC but I have to decide on which device to get.
Is Smile BASIC versions different in 2DS XL and Switch, and If so how are they different? I don't have the opportunity to try them out and compare myself.
For instance, can you create equally smooth 60 fps animations using both or is one better? I know that Switch has the better processor, but all I want is to be able to program smooth graphics and have a simple pocket device that I feel good about.
I'm also considering to get a DSi XL because of its battery time and because I prefer the layout of the keys. I know there's no support for it any longer, but how does the last version of Petite computer compare to the Smilebasic on the 2ds and the Switch?

Trust me, once you get used to SmileBASIC 3, it's a lot harder to transition to SmileBASIC 4, so starting at SmileBASIC 4 would be better. I wouldn't get a DSi XL because the DSi Shop is closed. Not that it matters, because Petit Computer was removed from the DSi Shop before it closed due to licensing issues, as well as the 3DS/2DS eShop. Plus, the 2DS XL can run DSi games, so what's the point?
