Can a NEW 3DS with homebrew replace a tablet?

I'm really interested in getting it for SmileBASIC too but I have a choice of getting one or just getting a new tablet to replace my old borked tech. I need something that can connect to airport wifi and help me communicate with people when I'm on the go. I currently use a 2DS but I cannot test the waters since it's too up to date for any exploits (that I've found). Anyway, I didn't want to create yet another freaking forum login for another place, so I'm asking here. :)

Your going to have to make the decision yourself, but I'll tell you that homebrew does not make your 3DS more like a tablet-like device. Both devices can connect to the internet but the 3DS cannot conviently talk to people. You can use the slow 3DS web browser for social media like twitter or something.

Dangit! I was hoping someone would buy me the best one!

The New 3DS XL browser seems to work fine for my need so I got one of them. Problem is that I couldn't use it, or put my 2DS files/software on it, and couldn't be bothered learning how to hack it without updating it so I can't put the Homebrew launcher on it ATM now. It seems to log into Facebook and use it just fine, that's all I really needed. Thanks for the reply.

If you want to homebrew your own software, Android is a better candidate than unofficial hacked 3DS build tools unless you actually want to use 3DS controls or something. You do what you want though.

@snail_: Yeah agreed, my first device I used for so long was a first gen Droid X and it served me well until I dropped it in the kitchen, doing shots and being le dork, earlier this year. Small screen, but I modded and loved it so well, even after I ditched the motorolala... it was a certain relationship I won't forget. I went that long without butterfingers but now it's got about seven permanent black circles that make it an emergency only device. I love Android things though. I just wish I made enough money to get both the portable gaming tech I desire and the utility portable tech I probably, "need". I might just give some handys in a back ally for a good Android tablet. ;P

Yeah, like a chromebook or something.

Android is Linux so is OSx

Android is Linux
Android is Linux based (i think)

More specifically, an altered kernel of Linux. It isn't actually Linux, it just used it as a base.

Most Android mobiles use an ARM SOC, so you could install something like Debian; but I doubt you would have anything close to complete driver support.
