Express Yourself If a person were to serve on the judging committee, would they still be allowed to submit their own entries? If they did, then that could manipulate their final decision, but then again, it's their job to give honest thought to the entries in the first place. Posted

Website Intermediate Programmer I can make programs, but I still have trouble here and there. • #4 ✎ 868 Lumage Head Admin There aren't many people that I imagine would work on such a committee that aren't also completely uninterested in entering contests. I guess we could try and get some people from the Japanese community to judge them, which might be pretty unbiased. The systems I have in mind try to allow that group to also submit entries, for example, using the selected group to determine whether an entry is of acceptable quality, and then leaving the final vote up to the rest of the community... Right now, I don't have confidence in letting the judging committee do the obvious, but it may be useful for something less directly related. Posted

  • #6 ✎ 890 snail_ Helper Received for being very helpful around SmileBASIC Source Achievements OSP Contest 2 Contest Participant I participated in the second SmileBASIC Source OSP Contest! Night Person I like the quiet night and sleep late. Express Yourself RE: the question of "I prefer no prize because it reduces drive to manipulate" The prize is irrelevant. The prize is the glory, the imaginary internet rep, the fact that you won. The "real prize" doesn't matter. If there is some drive of "I want X to win" or "I don't wan't Y to win" for whatever ulterior motive, it will surface itself in the votes; hopefully it's not something we have to worry about. The dynamics are different in terms of participants cheating, but not by much. Posted
  • #7 ✎ 361 Chemicalex Drawing I like to draw! Hobbies RNG Hidden Easter Eggs Video Games I like to play video games! Hobbies We're a small community. I feel the existence of a judging committee would be jarring in amount (namely, if there's enough people in it to call it a "committee"). Not saying a set of judges to narrow down the better programs would be bad, but it doesn't need to consist of more than 1-2 disinterested people. Posted
  • #8 ✎ 868 Lumage Head Admin Since some people are actually interpreting these polls as indication of "things that are going to happen," I just want to state that I just wanted to gauge the community's opinion of a few things, not necessarily to make decisions about them. There will not be privileged groups of judges for contests, not even for filtering entries. Voting and entry will not be complicated by unnecessary systems. Prizes aren't being abolished because of human self-interest. What may have an effect is: When under space restrictions, level of interest in OSP outweighs interest in QSP. That the community is still receptive to contests at all. And also I like OSP so I wondered if people would be okay with me entering the ranking ww I think there are up to two possible contests planned for the near future, so thank you for providing this valuable input even if it's not directly regarded in the end. . .
