A few people seem to think that the second OSP contest was a failure because of the poll results. I don't agree with this. Most people had fun writing their entries, and the fact that tetris won doesn't change that. I treated the contest as a challenge to see if I could write a tetris game in one screen of code, and I'm happy with the results, not just because I got 1st place, but because I had fun creating a game that I liked. Even if you think the voting results are unfair, you don't have to say that the entire contest was terrible.

I 100% agree with this. A few people lashed out at my entry for the contest, Fluid Cubes, because it "isn't a game" and "only a concept". First off, when did the programming contests ever become "game" contests? People can create whatever they want for the contests whether it's a game, application, or something else. Second, my entry wasn't only a concept. Yes, the idea could have been expanded on but I only had a single screen of code to work with. I made as much as I could with the space I had and that was that. Finally, Everybody has their own equal opinion and impact on the final results. If you didn't like my entry then that was your vote, nothing more. You shouldn't lash out at the winners because your opinion is different from the majority. When I created Fluid Cubes I thought I would receive a very mediocre placement. I knew that my submission wasn't the best but I was happy with it. It had a pretty good art style (in comparison to my previous OSP's), provided a few minutes of solid interaction, and I had fun developing it.

I don't have a wall of text, but I still have a point to make. I didn't want to just submit my magic game, I didn't have much fun making it. The terrain generator, on the other hand, was one of the first things I made on my n2DS, and really felt nice when I could use the c-stick to zoom. Despite it not really filling the screen, I had fun playing with scaling and attempts at optimization (even though my optimization never came to fruition in the end).

It isn't worth arguing over. People apparently want games, so suggest a contest that only allows making games, possibly of a certain genre. But there's no need to complain about this one as it's over and definitely isn't worth making 2 threads for/against it.
