I don't necessarily think the fact that the software contains the message now means they're going to use it immediately; software makes preemptive changes all the time. But considering the fact that Miiverse hasn't been added to Switch (yet… aside from Splatoon 2 but I think that's a bit different) and the fact that the Switch is effectively the Wii U 2 makes it look to me like Wii U support is dropping on the horizon; maybe they'll only close Miiverse on the Wii U. I don't think they'll close it for 3DS since new titles stll use it pretty frequently, and I personally would consider that a bad move. Miiverse is actually useful for a few things (it's the only way of taking 3DS screenshots) and I think having a central game community is better than just using Twitter or something. Plus, service closure is always bad for somebody, unless they plan on replacing/reintegrating it.
Miiverse shutdown message
MorganCreated:
So for those who have been living under a rock, (Because most of you probably already know this) Dataminers analyzing Wii U’s newest firmware update have found evidence that Miiverse will
be ending soon, (My guess is a year or two) this was posted by "Shiny Quagsire" on twitter who found the following message:
“The Miiverse service has ended. Miiverse and any software features that make use of Miiverse are now unavailable.”
If you're like me, then chances are this news isn't exactly devastating, since I only really used it for SB screenshots and stuff. (And since SBS is better anyway imo)
I'm curious what most people here think, so here's a poll on it:

This is not what data mining means.
We had a thread discussing this somewhere else, I believe, but the important part of Miiverse closing to this community (whether you find it "good" or "bad" as a community experience notwithstanding) is that Miiverse is used for screenshots of SB. I don't follow anything enough to know if that's being replaced by something else, but if you can't take 3DS screenshots without third-party firmware, that's very inconvenient.
In addition, however much of a stupid mess Miiverse is for these purposes, there are still many programs and keys stored only there, which might be lost when this happens. If this approaches, it might be wise to urge miiverse users to collect their own keys from their profiles and archive them here.

(Also, Nintendo has stated that miiverse will not make an appearance on the switch) Miiverse for the wii u and 3DS are one and the same, if I remember correctly, so it would be weird if they stopped letting wii u owners access miiverse, but 3DS owners still could. Anyway, I think this is at least one or two years away, and I also think that nintendo will give a heads up in advance which will be helpful...In the meantime, as lumage said, it'd be a good idea to save anything you have on miiverse that you want to keep and when the time draws near, urge other users to do the same.
And yeah, I highly doubt miiverse is going to shut down in the next year or 2. They probably just added that message so by the time miiverse does end, pretty much everyone will have the firmware update that has the "miiverse has ended" message and you won't just get a random error code. This is definitely the kind of thing I was referring to with the "preemptive update" statement. If this error message had been in the software since the beginning nobody would care; it's just that it had to be "added" which is concerning people.
I'm gonna miss miiverse but also not at all. Miiverse is where my username orginates from while i did not some of the people there. There was people I'm friends with who were miiverse. so i guess it's gonna go
Although it's of no use to me now, Miiverse was where I began to grow my public image. I don't think I would be where I am now without it.
I'm wondering. If Miiverse were to discontinue, would the Wii-U and 3DS receive and update that would allow you take screenshots in-game without it? That's really the only feature that I would be genuinely upset about losing.
