Good luck with this project. It will be interesting to see where it goes!
I'm Making an Open World Platformer
answerCreated:
Hello, many of you users know me as that one guy that exists on the site for no apparent reason. Well, besides the fact of that, I'm currently developing a video game which I will begin development on PC for when I'm done SmileBASIC that can hopefully go towards better hardware(well, the profit if I even make any) where it's kind of a mash between Cave Story and Skyrim. I'd love any support towards making this game and I can post regular updates on the SmileBASIC Source forums!
If you have any questions or are willing to help in any way, don't be shy to drop a comment below. This is also where an update log may be whenever when this game is in full swing development rather than an on and off thing(as shown as an example with most of my projects that I never completed).
I'm excited to get this into full swing :)
Here's a screenshot of the progress I've been making Oh yes, and items are finally usable I give credit to jynxlynx14 and Likey2017 to their graphic workSOOOO MUCCHHHH HYPEEEEEEE! This better run properly on O3DS lol
I think if you'ere trying to make an open world platformer the way I think you are, you should really take some inspiration and even play Kirby and te Amazing Mirror! Thats the game you should really strive to be like, because it's a perfect example! I'd love to play another game like it anyway! Good luck, Im definitely excited!
An early public buildI'm running into an error with the packager: Illegal function call in 0:136(SAVE)NR3J4X93To unpackage the file use:KRW37WQV
Oh my god, I know what's happening, it's trying to save a non existent file(with the grp header), I'll try to fix this by tomorrow, I can't do it today ;-; EDIT: I added ,0 to the save command, something I should've not done, just fix it by get rid of thatAn early public buildI'm running into an error with the packager: Illegal function call in 0:136(SAVE)NR3J4X93To unpackage the file use:KRW37WQV
You can PM me details and such. I wont be able to work all of the time though,I still have to make In The Dark.If you would like some help, I can help. I can develop an algorithim to create the worlds, or make them infinite. I can also program AI, and such. Please, this is something I would strongly desire as I have almost no knowledge of AI and such
Wait, so is the game gonna have infinite worlds and be a sandbox, or are you just talking about the AI or both? PS: I wouldnt mind helping you conceptualize area layouts if you need any help :3If you would like some help, I can help. I can develop an algorithim to create the worlds, or make them infinite. Right now, I'm making a map editor; the mapping system is going to be a little interesting how it's going to work
Basically the process:
- Parse the BG array information for each of the BG layers
- Parse any external information about the region data(which will contain names for each region, music setting, etc.), player starting positions and such
- Parse every event(events will be recognized as sprites, if the player interacts with them as such as touching them or interacting with them the button [A], then the event will be triggered and it will run a lambda that is stored within the DAT file) This will be used to make things such as doors or chests, or even NPCs, these events will also be assigned as a thread for background processes for using.
- And, ummm, that's about it...

Another thing, I'm still waiting for a PM about the game. So...That version that I released was more of a prototype, that's nowhere near where I want the project to be when I'm finished. Trust me, there's so much more, you only experienced probably 1% of what the final is going to be
