Goblin Hoard is a dungeon crawl-like game. It is played on a map of 6x6x3 tiles and some aspects of it may feel like a board game. The objective is to get as high of a score as possible before losing (it's inevitable). This is done by revealing, or "flipping", tiles and searching for gold. If you find the goblin hoard, you receive 10x the standard amount of gold and the map resets, allowing you to play through again to maximize your score.

There is an info bar at the bottom of the screen that describe what actions you can take at certain times. See below for descriptions of the terms, items, and battles:
Terms
HP: The hero's health. Game is over if HP reaches 0.
LM: Lumen is a resource that reveals dark tiles. Press A before moving to reveal a room. Revealed tiles will turn back to dark tiles after some time unless the tile has been revealed 3 times.
CRG: Courage is decreased when moving onto a dark tile or fleeing from battle, but gained when winning a battle. Game is over if courage reaches 0.
STS: Status shows current hunger/thirst levels. If hunger/thirst status persists, it will decrease HP.
ROOM: Number of rooms revealed.
GOLD: How much gold that has been found.
Items
If the action "ITEM" is chosen, use arrow buttons to select from the list on the right side of the screen. KEYS and KITS cannot be selected.
FOOD: Removes HNGRY status. Found on map.
WATER: Removes THRST status. Found on map.
POTION: Restore HP. Found on map.
CRYSTL: Restores LM. Dropped by goblins.
KEYS: Allows passage onto gate obstacle tiles. Dropped by goblins.
KITS: Allows passage onto broken ladder obstacle tiles. Dropped by goblins.
Battles
There are two options in battles, Fight or Escape. For fight, two dice are rolled. The left determines who attacks (odd for hero, even for goblin) and the right determines amount of damage dealt (1-1 match). Escaping battle costs 10 courage.
