Has SmileBoom ever deleted a program for copyright reasons?

It wouldn't be pirating, since you would have to make your own version of the game, not steal the code of the original. (you might as well just use your own sprites, because why not?)
SB tolerates and in fact encourages this. As long as you make your own version and use your own (or default) graphic, they won't take it down, and you won't need an encryptor/decryptor. For example, this program is clearly a "clone" of Fallout 4's minigame, but because the author coded everything himself and the presentation is different, it is not a copyright infringement. SB won't take it down and this is here to stay. https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkzdNfPOQ Oh, the same user also made a "clone" of Mario Maker. But again, since he's not using copyrighted sprites, SB lets it stay. https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkks3FGig (Note: posting screenshots of Mario/copyrighted stuff seems to be ok, but not key sharing) However, statements like these are frowned upon by SB (and by me):
    1. I wonder if we could encrypt for things that would normally get taken down. 2. With this system, copyrighted content can be shared over the main SmileBASIC server.
The legal term is "willful intent". The speakers are fully aware that the content they are about to upload will (normally) be taken down, and are copyrighted, but still are willing to violate the agreement by circumvention. If they do act upon what they said, they ARE pirating. If someone still wants to willfully upload copyrighted stuff, all I can say is SB mods are not stupid. And users can be snitches too.

to have some cool games for free-ish
that's already what we have Why would you rather have half-assed Mario clones than stuff like Sp00ky Maze?
The thing is, people dont have the motivation to make something as good as spooky maze. If they try to make a mario clone, they know exactly what they're going for, and exactly how to do it. Of course that only applies to people who aren't japanese. Once you go japanese you immediately have the ability to make some of the best content available.

Let's not try to perpetuate Japanese stereotypes. Even in jest positve steotypes are damaging.

Express Yourself Honestly, It's fine if people make mario clones. It's just important that they have IDEAS. Imagine how many great programmers are just doing nothing right now, because they don't have any ideas. Once you get started, you can change the theme of the game without starting over, if you decide to do something more creative. Posted

Express Yourself First Month Joined in the very first month of SmileBASIC Source Website An encryptor would probably be better than a compressor. If SB finds the compressor, they could easily decompress the programs created with it. However, with the programs being encrypted with a password, they would also need the password to decrypt it. Said password would be shared along with the public key (and likely instructions to decrypt it, i.e. how to download and use the decryptor). I'd recommend the program generate it's own encryption password (in a similar fashion to the public keys) which would be printed back to the user, but still allow the user to manually choose a password. This way, users wouldn't be inconvenienced by having to choose their own password. Posted

Seems nice, but what if SB figured out how to use the encryptor/decryptor?

Use the default sprites or make your own. Don't steal, don't dodge rules. I still don't see why we want to cheat the system. If the US version users are causing infringement trouble, SB will most certainly think twice about an EU release. Kobayashi said as much on twitter -- the US user base and activity will be one indicator for their EU release decision. Posted Edited by LohadL

Achievements As I've said before, the main purpose of a compressor/encryptor shouldn't be to dodge copyright; it has far more legitimate applications than that. Also, do you guys seriously think SmileBoom really cares enough to manually check offending content and figure out how it dodged the system? They don't. They only really manually remove anything if they know about, they don't go looking. Posted

Unfortunately it seems like everyone on this board who mentioned a compressor/encryptor is thinking about the former. Posts #5, #18, #28, #29 all have elements of intent or worry that they'd be found out. If you can name a legitimate use, please educate the board. I personally can't think of any except for shady uses.

You are absolutely right about this. If anything shady's going on, eventually the Japanese (or bilingual people) will catch on and will report this via twitter (the fastest unofficial route).

do you even encrypt bro? "In cryptography, encryption is the process of encoding messages or information in such a way that only authorized parties can read it. Encryption does not of itself prevent interception, but denies the message content to the interceptor." In other words, without the key specified SPECIFICALLY for each program, it is impossible to decrypt it.

I really wish I hadn't suggested the encryption idea...
The idea of a compressor / encryptor isn't a bad idea. The idea of using them to bypass the rules is, though.

Ugh, just don't have any copyrighted material in your games, is that too much to ask?
