[UNFINISHED] Guide To Properly: Spreading Information About Your Video Game!

Root / Talk About Programs / [.]

reitracsCreated:
Have you ever wondered "How am I possibly ever going to get the information about my game spread so that I can gain hype ultimately building up towards the full release?!". Well person, I am here to tell you to stop. Hold it.. don't click that 'Post Thread' button yet, because if you aren't ready to fulfill people's expectations than you come off as someone who can't follow through. Alright, good. Now, lets start the guide with step one: Actually having a game to show off. "Alright guys I'm gonna make Super Mario 64 in SmileBasic." "Do you understand the limitations of SmileBasic involving 3d engines?" "Uhh..." "Do you have the most basic form of gameplay? Movement and Interactions?" "I have a file called SM64.PRG" "Oh boy..." Have that conversation with yourself (varying it to what your game is about) and decide whether you'll be able to release the game and fulfill expectations at the same time. Two: Know what stage is your game in. There are lots of release types for video games; tech demo, demo, beta, alpha, full release and misuing one of these labels can leave people feeling quite empty. Tech Demo A tech demo is the smallest form of videogame release, if you analyze the phrase, it reveals "Technology Demonstration". If you've gone to E3, Worlds, or any other annual gaming convention you'll probably see booths with small games set up for playing. Most of these games will be on upcoming consoles or handhelds demonstrating their power. A famous example is "Super Mario 128":

(video) In the video we can see 128 marios lifting and carrying boxes, this is a technical demonstration for how the Nintendo Gamecube can process lots of 3d objects performing rather complex animations. tech demos are NOT demos Demo Demos are strangely placed on the release scale (they can come first, or close to last), demo is short for Demonstration. The demonstration is for a video game in development. Demos are a version in the game in which trailers or leaks have advertised, for example. Let's take Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. yes I know it's horribly formatted

I've been so tempted to post gradual development builds of my game, but I know from experience that my programming skills only get better every day, and therefore my previous builds look pretty dumb. Instead, I'll post it the moment it's playable and pretty. Others who downloaded it can report bugs to me. Now when that is, who knows. I have a good idea of what I need to do, but I'm the king of procrastination.

I was actually poking fun at the advice considering you posted your half finished guide. Of course, not at all the same thing since guides can be completed in a much shorter amount of time. Plus, you seem pretty determinded to complete this. :D
