Super Bearland

Version:2.0.0Size:804 KB
Bears have evolved the ability to shapeshift into anything (or anyone) you can imagine! (Or maybe your eyesight is just really poor?) Either way, one wrong step could be your last in the randomly generated world of Super Bearland. Hunt those beasts down before they hunt you! Talk to people to get Clues about the Bear's location and disguise. Check objects to find the Tools you need to take the Bear down! But if you accidentally Talk to or Check the Bear, it's Game Over! Each round lasts 2-5 minutes, but no two games are alike with randomized levels, optional challenges, and a heaping helping of unlockables. Keep playing and experimenting to see if you can find them all!

Instructions:

WARNING: Contains flashing light effects and "jumpscares" upon losing. If you are sensitive to either of these, disable them in the Settings Menu. Circle Pad / D-Pad: Move L / R / Hold Touch Screen: Fast Forward "T" in the top left corner: Toggle Typewriter Animation Bear Trap: Throw at suspected Bears to eliminate them. Bearometer: Determines if a Bear is in the current Town. Super Bear Trap: Eliminates the current Town, and everything inside. Decoy: Automatically prevents one Theft attempt.

Notes:

Cool Features:
    Retro music & sound effects
  • CRT-style scan lines
  • Procedurally generated levels, with Autobalance
  • Advanced Narrator system
  • NES Font
  • Kerning (Reduces empty space between letters)
  • 6 unlockable game modes
  • Unlockable Challenge Mode (stacks with other modes)
  • Notebook (Automatically keeps track of hints)
And more!

Here's the modded file I made with the secret: NR8DJXG3 A5TEVWQV

I'm doing one. Screenshot: Note that this was done with the overrides for everything except the adjective, (which I'm not sure even has an override) but this screenshot can technically happen in normal gameplay. Yes, this is an UNDERTALE mod for this game.

Is the “Not saving jumpscare” the only jumpscare that will activate with jumpscare a off? also, the not saving thing, is there any bad things that happen besides being forced to save?

Yes, and I don't know.

That is correct, sheep. There are no additional consequences or punishments.

I'm not sure why you had to remove the Hide Notes option to add the scanline toggle; I expected it to be in the same spot it was in Buffalo, on the status bar. It's an option that can potentially increase the difficulty for some (or change the experience by forcing you to take your own notes) and losing an option is always a little sad. Also I guess we know the narrator is a her now.

My thinking was, those who don't want to use the Notebook are still able to ignore it if they so choose. But now they actually gain the option to change their mind later. (Especially if you come back to a game days later and need a refresher.) The Shoot icon is an Arrow because you fire an Arrow. (Badum kish)

These are all fair points about the notes tab that I didn't really think about. I still think something should be done about the consistency with Buffalo though since both games appear to exist within the same imaginary environment (and having the button be consistent and easily reachable is always a positive.) And about the button label in WUMPUS, the button labels are the corresponding DS buttons in every other mode, so I found it very confusing. I thought it was somehow D-Pad up to fire, and then maybe top face button, but neither were correct. You could just use the touch screen but this just feels kind of bad when you try to use buttons.

Oh interesting, I was going for the complete opposite effect - the "imaginary environments" were meant to be as different as I could make them. One was wordy and had lots of submenus, the other was meant to use as few words/menus as possible. That was the only reason Virtual Buffalo had that button on the dashbar: it didn't have a Settings menu. The feedback I got was that users either liked or hated the stripes, and rarely changed their mind about them. So I opted against cluttering up the UI on something not as important to have mid-round. The Shoot button was mapped to both A and B just for extra convenience. (B was the Items Button, and A is typically the rightmost button. Muscle memory)
