Had PTC for the DSi/3DS on DSiWare? Played Village? Want to play it again, but don't want to boot PTC for whatever reason? Well, here's your answer! (well, sort of.) Village for SmileBASIC! You can chop trees, catch a weird fish, talk to a sign, and more!

Instructions:

You can move with the D-Pad. To turn around without moving, use the circle pad. To run, hold B. Pressing A makes you interact with the object you're facing, or use the held item. If you want to pick something up, press Y. To manage the inventory, press X. While in the inventory, you can move the cursor with the D-Pad. To equip the selected item, press A. To un-equip it, select the same item again and press A. Pressing Y allows you to organize your inventory. First select the item to move, and then the item to be swapped. Pressing X or B exits the inventory. If you want to speed up the dialogue, hold B or A. Debugging related controls: Pressing L shows a test dialogue.

Changelog

Demo 1

  • A 72x42 map. (It is actually 84x42, though.)
  • Walking around.
  • Fishing (work-in-progress)
  • Other stuff

Future plans

  • Better fishing
  • "bitwise autotile" (when I figure out how to do it.)
  • Better graphics
  • Other stuff.

Notes:

This game is HUGELY work-in-progress. You should come back at a later point for the cool stuff. Also, random, where's the BBCode buttons for this field?

I'd like to see how this will evolve into what everyone remembers from Petit Computer. *watched* Good luck with this!

You're welcome! I actually never played this on Petit Computer (;-;), so I'm hoping that this program goes well!

ayyyy lmao

awwwwsome!

This is also good for people who don't have Petit Computer.

Are you going to give random any credit?

The BBCode buttons aren't put on the "Notes" field because you can't use bbcode there.

I WANT IT SO BAD BUT I CAN'T GET IT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY!

Then why can I use BBCode there? See the bold text.

Because you're not SUPPOSED to use bbcode there. or... IDK. I don't remember why we didn't put the tools there. Fine. FINE! I'll put bbcode whatever!!! (not actually angry)

  • "bitwise autotile" (when I figure out how to do it.)
  • Better graphics <-----------
  • Other stuff.

Why is "bitwise autotile" a future feature? I mean that is useful only if the player need to edit the background. Will there be a feature or action that change that?

I'm not even sure what bitwise autotile even means

I think they are referring to the way some editors automatically place tiles along terrain types with the appropriate direction. So the user places a single grass tile, and the editor determines based on the surrounding tiles which version to actually place that has the correct corner/edge transitions (Grass->Dirt, Grass->Water). Like this: https://love2d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7826 The bitwise thing I assume, refers to the tile value bits that control horizontal and vertical flipping. I'll let the author correct me though.

Autotiling would be used for paths and water so there is no direct transition (see images in glennxserge's posted link). I don't know where the bitwise part came from, though.
