SmileBASIC Source weekly program showcase?

Root / Talk About Programs / [.]

So I've had this idea for a rather long time. The idea is that I would every Sunday test some programs released that week. So what do you people think? Should I do the "The weekly SBS program showcase"?

I think it's a nice idea.

I don't think the community is big enough, or more accurately, the upload rate of new programs/games isn't fast enough. It's a nice idea though :)

If there are no new programs or not enough, older ones might be showcased instead/in addition to the new ones. But when there is no more programs to showcase? IDK.

This might encourage more people to post their programs here

I think it's a great idea. You can do a Let's Play-style on programs that aren't featured here, even Japanese programs if they're not heavily text based.

That could be totally possible. (but they would be just some screenshots and some text; I don't have a capture card. (That would mean that they're not possible?? (unless someone wants to see some guy holding a camera with one hand and playing with the other one)))

Maybe we could have program contests, where there's a theme or rule you have to follow (like limiting the program size)

I think this could be a good idea. It might be better in long-term if it was an official site thing (and, uh, removed from the plebian class) because then it would attract entries to the site better and prevent the problem from before with people giving up on making them. We'll need a news writer, then.

There are plans for this. Not going to run them alongside the ogiri though.

You usually need an incentive to enter a contest. Local fame is usually not enough; for instance, people enter Ogiri because it's ALL SmileBASIC programmers, and you could get your program featured and get a lot of exposure. Even with all that, almost nobody here entered Ogiri. It'll be even worse for a community contest, as we have no prizes and no exposure. As for the showcase thing, I think it's a good idea. Sometimes I see really awesome programs, but they get buried for some reason. Uhhh I want to get some other stuff done first though, such as displaying the subcategories for Programs and Resources and implementing a settings system. Also, I really do need to add message walls for users and some kind of display which shows who's in chat before entering. Also, I've noticed a different trend for SmileBASIC (but it might just be because it's new). With Petit Computer, it seemed like we had slightly more people who simply played games compared to those who made them. But with SmileBASIC, it seems like we have a LOT more programmers than game players. Maybe I'm wrong, but we don't seem to get a lot of votes or views on pages.

This might be because the website isn't getting enough exposure. One other small factor is that PAL regions are still SOL and don't have SB yet. Bottom line is there's less people overall, so there's less votes. As for why it's all programmers, well, I guess the programmers are more likely to find this site. The players might get enough games to play on Miiverse, so they don't go looking for a SmileBASIC fansite. All random guesses of course. The last one makes most sense.

Maybe we could start a SBS channel on Youtube that could host periodic review of games? This could also be used to garner more users to this site.

Oh, by Let's Play I totally meant screenshots and text. Anything that increases exposure so that good programs don't get buried helps. I think Miiverse also plays a huge factor as an inspiration for budding SmileBASIC programmers, like myself. I tried to program in MKII 5 years ago but never went back once I hit a wall since I didn't have resources to go to. Speaking of contests, people please enter this. Just write anything. Zero participants is sad :( https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkzEVTGJQ

So it seems that this will be a thing, but just to make sure everyone is ok with this, answer this poll EDIT: If programs are submitted to SBS on Sunday, they will be showcased next week instead that day. Just telling. (So stuff released on Monday-Saturday will be showcased that week)

I've done that kind of recording before for my Sega Genesis. Very difficult.
