Please do not be stupid with titles. It's not cute, and I don't appreciate it.

what tab?

The tabs in chat. There are 2 open rooms: SmileBASIC and Off-Topic. He is suggesting that, due to the large volume of general programming topics, that SmileBASIC should be renamed to "Programming"

It really depends on the activity in the rest of chat what is acceptable or best use of the tabs. I feel that change is unneeded and doing so would reflect against the primary purpose of the website.

I really feel like the chat has occupied a secondary purpose to the site as a hangout place, so changing it to Programming doesn't really remove focus from the main site. In addition considering the small scope of our community and how universal many programming concepts are, I think it to be a welcome change. I understand the concern though.

The site may be a wretched hive of scum and villainy, but I hold that it need not become reflected in the signage used.

Not being purely democratic does not mean the people's opinion must be disregarded.

Not being purely democratic means that the head admin may have the first choice.

If the "SmileBASIC" tab is known for being a hub where people strictly ask/discuss all things programming, then by all means, change it. However, the title implies that you can talk about anything SmileBASIC, ie. features, DLC, and whatnot. I wouldn't want to go to the "Off-Topic" tab ON smilebasicsource to talk about SmileBASIC (would that be off-topic? I don't think so). If I were a newcomer to chat that is exactly what I would think is being communicated to me.

How about we rename it to "Wrong Tab" instead?

+1

why don't we keep it called "SmileBasic" but in the default post that gets sent to all users when they join a note that says "Other topics related to programming sometimes can occur here, and that is OK. "

or call it both "SmileBASIC & Programming" or some variant

The main reason I suggested this is that often, when talking about SB, the conversation drifts to talking about programming in general (and the other way around)
