Gauging Interest - Dating simulator (NO MATURE CONTENT)

Root / Talk About Programs / [.]

MasterR3C0RDCreated:
I want to know who here would be interested in a dating simulator in SB. There would be no adult content (like in other dating simulators). It would probably be based on the bishōujo genre of dating sims, to be exact. I have no solid details yet, but for sure I'll have at least 3 girls, a backstory for the main character, and I'll try to have good storylines. If you're interested, let me know, and if you have any good ideas, also let me know! By the way, this is a solo project as of right now, but if you have possible resources (graphics, libraries, etc), let me know! EDIT: The project is official! Expect it on SBS sometime 2017!

Seems like an interesting project, but I do not have any resources; but I'd like to see where this goes if you start this >:)

Thanks! I don't NEED resources, but if they're available, I'd be happy to accept them.

LET'S GET GOOGLE ADS FOR ATTENTION

just kiddingnot sure how well you can get way with using ao usagi art
psshthat's what asking is for

This would be an interesting project. I never would've thought of doing such a thing. I'd support it.

I want to do a Dating Sim too now that I know how to use sprites but I dont want to waste hours and hours writing text. (This is why I refuse to make Text games in SB...) :P I'll give it a shot though... Now you can have an industry rival in The Dating Genre. I'll look at the other text games and see what they did.

Ahh... And so a rivalry begins. Actually, you'll probably not hate each other at all. But who cares?

Yeah, but I don't think ElzoBro has even played a dating sim before. I've played Katawa Shōujo and Everlasting Summer, so I totally could wreck his skills. </sarcasm>

Just a serious announcement. I'm not beginning development of the game until the summer. This is so I have a few months to find the all important resources.
Resources NeededI currently need:
  • Images of female characters and support characters. These would need both emotion palettes (happy, sad, mad, laughing, etc) and images that the emotion palettes would work with. I also need different poses of the same character. I'd prefer anime style drawing, but if you have drawn some other kind of images (must be in color) that would be appropriate (no weird crude drawings for the lolz), go ahead and let me know!
  • Background images for the setting. These would probably be stuff like school, classrooms, parks, cafés, etc.
  • Music and SFX. I'd need things like tense music, anger music, fight music, slap SFX, door open and close SFX, door slam SFX, etc. If you have any resources that either you made, or you know is royalty-free (not copyrighted, can be used without paying the author) and can give me source proof, PM me or email me at shadowcx11sb@gmail.com. I accept PNGs and Spritesheet format GRP (with an explanation of the sprite Us & Vs) (character sprites have to at least take up about 130-200px width and height should be less then or equal to half the screen, transparent background) for the characters, normal, full (top) screen GRPs for the background, and loopable MML/WAVs for the SFX (suggestions from the built in sounds are accepted too).
Currently, the plan is that I'll work on this all over summer, take a break before winter break, and have a visual novel engine that can be used by myself and others, release that, and then, it's just doing the code through the engine. I'll let you guys know about future plans. Thanks, ShadowCX11

Regarding art assets, deviantart and may other sites have a bunch of fair use assets that could easily be suited to something like this.

I want to make a cute game. But no one will help me... Please help me out anyway you can: http://smilebasicsource.com/forum?fpid=8614#post_8614

Just download one of those WAV recorders and record somebody slapping you. Easy, realistic SFX!

Yeah, err, good luck with working on it now. You have a lot of things to program, as you're going in a completely different kind of direction then my idea. Most dating sims that I see are visual novels. You choose things every once in a while, and you have a dynamic script (dialogue is always similar, but you can choose how you get to it). However, in your case, you're doing it more like a simpler version of HuniePot, without the dating minigame. I'm going to be taking the visual novel direction, which, in this case, makes it a lot easier to program and adds a lot more value to your choices. Realize, Elzo, that this isn't some "oh look I just finished it in a few days" project. You need to think about your characters, their personalities, how they'll respond to certain gifts or things you say. That's why I've set a reasonable goal to be sometime next year (2017). Think more about this before taking it up, maybe think of learning more about SmileBASIC before taking such a large project. And again, like Sam mentioned, there's no way you're getting resources for it. EDIT: Changed the date to something more reasonable.

[Edit] wrong dating Sim thread lol. And now for something relevant. My interest is piqued. And I haven't played any dating Sim games, so I'm excited to see why the podcast The Patch seems to be playing one every second week.

I suppose... I just want to give it a shot before I say no...

That's the key. You can't say no. Start out with a simple text adventure, it's a lot of "work" just to get two simple paths. Aim to make a ten minute game. Ten minutes long to play that is. Since you know a bit about sprites, and you will know how to make a text adventure, combine the two. That should give you a good base for what a dating Sim could potentially be. Try to make this a 15 minute game. At this point you will know more than I do :p I've been trying to create a rpg battle system I can add to my text adventure. It's been a week of tinkering but I think I got it down. I haven't even touched sprites or learned how they work yet. It took a week to write my text adventure. These guys are talking about fully fledged games. Worthy of monetary sale. Something that is out of our grasp at this very moment. But we both have to keep working at it otherwise we never will get to be at their level. Don't give up. I myself am a big fan of instant gratification. And I find even that isn't fast enough for me. But ya gotta persevere.

Thanks for the advice

I want you guys to help me make the game. Resources for this game are too hard to find ready on the internet, so I want to see if anyone here on the forums would want to help me do so. I really can't pay you, but I can let you have beta builds of SVNovel (the visual novel engine) and the dating sim (name TBD). If you have drawings of any girl characters or guy characters (the protagonist is needed, and he'll need SOME dude friends, right?) with an angry pose & face, sad pose & face, happy pose & face, confused pose & face, and the character in his/her natural position, and it seems like it'd work for the game, I'd be happy to use it. Also, I need music and SFX, so if you're really look with MML, or you can set up a good system for SFX, I'll be happy to use that too. Finally, I have an even greater task for you story writers out there. Every time I decide on a character, I'll post the images on the thread. You can write the backstory, the personality, even the name! Having people help me do these resources will GREATLY reduce development time! Also, if you think you could help with the main story, let me know! Again, it'll help a LOT! Anyways, thanks for looking at the thread. Let's see some HYPE!!! Also, quick note on the schedule. Here's the official timeline as of April, 2016:
  • Summer, December 2016 - Work on SVNovel, get the basics down, write a simple visual novel for it.
  • January-? 2017 - Release SVNovel. Work on the actual novel story system.
  • Sometime 2017 - Release the dating sim.
