I'm actually doing cleaning for money. Also, about the server ticket, is it a subscription sort of deal like the gold membership? Because I don't want to pay $5 every now and then just to upload a single program. Or is it something that you always have once you get it?
The tickets add 10 upload slots permanently.

You can upload 10 projects per one server ticket. There is no expiration date like the gold membership. If you have no server ticket, you can't upload any programs, and can download programs only once in 8 hours. (like demo version)

You can buy SmileBASIC for $25 or $30. If you buy it for $25, you just get the software and no server ticket. Buy it for $30 and you get a server ticket included. Server tickets are eternal and tied to an account. So if one user buys SmileBASIC for $30, they get a server ticket, but other users on the console don't. Others have to buy a server ticket for $5 if they want to upload to the server and want unlimited downloads. You can also purchase extra server tickets for more upload slots, $5 each.

You'll always have it. I feel like there shouldn't be a $25 option. It's basically the demo but with saving. It would make sense if they only limitation was that you couldn't upload, but being restricted to downloading every 8 hours? Seriously? Why?

At first, SB4 was sold only as a set with a server ticket. But SmileBoom had to sell SB4 separately from server tickets in order to line it up in the Nintendo eShop. https://twitter.com/notohoho/status/1151604228525195264

It's most certainly worth the money. My opinion might be a bit biased though. SB4 was the only reason I bought a switch lol. I really like SmileBASIC.

I want to give an EU SmileBASIC 4 download code, (redeemable now) to someone willing to stream programming in it (can only try one game from the server every 8 hours right now as server use tickets aren't available until the 23rd) MUST stream to Twitch and upload the recording to Youtube afterward (however, editing is fine). I totally would if I had equipment/time for streaming and a European account, but sadly I don't lol

FWIW : 10 upload slots is "probably" enough. Keep in mind, it handles updates, too. If you reupload a new version of the same project, you can overwrite the old one, and it keeps the same download key and slot (#SBKey) With updates, I can't imagine many folk needing more than about 20 slots. I mean, I've made AGameAWeek since the Japanese release, and I've only used 52 slots. (48 games, 2 tools, 2 bug-test things) Packs of 10 is good, IMO. Think of it as having to buy a new Floppy Disk every so often!

I would volunteer (though I lack the clout), but unfortunately my apartment was robbed, my Switch gone like wind. Had a mean piece of animation software in the works. You know, in my opinion, handheld devices like the 3DS and Switch are perfect for certain art applications. And the Switch runs like you wouldn't believe, https://youtu.be/xItO9ZhLZPk 60 fps on it (in real life, at least) looks so dang smooth.

So how is the transition between SB3 and SB4? Will I have to pretty much learn a whole new language, or will it be more or less the same with a few differences?

There are a lot of differences. I would say you're safe if you focus mostly on text-based projects, but when it comes to other fields, there's a lot of differences to take in. There aren't many differences in terms of syntax though, in case you were wondering. Niconii posted a resource with most, if not all of the changes between SB3 and SB4.

The differences are relatively easy to digest, there's just lots of small ones and a few large things. The default display setup is very similar to SB3, probably to maintain compatibility and make the transition easier, but there's definitely a lot more options.

Yeah I'm kind of glad that text screens can be used for BG stuff because it's so much easier to make DATA BGs. One thing I find funny is how they made the graphic screen better to use by making it a sprite instead of a page.

I agree with snail. I still feel intimidated by some of the additions (for example, I haven't touched those focus instructions that handle separate windows); however, I was porting over some old code with relative ease in the span of about an hour. Playing around with the more familiar changes, such as XSCREEN functionality and how the graphics environment is uh assembled and handled, certainly helped. After a few quarantine days using it, it felt like familiar old SmileBASIC.

Yeah, I'm kind of glad that it's so similar to SB3, because I could probably port all of my old projects by downloading them and updating any code that needs to be changed. And based off of what I've read, that won't be super hard. Also now my parents are being really nice and getting me a USB keyboard at no extra cost to me (I'm paying for the game in chores) so I won't ever have to deal with whatever excuse of a built-in keyboard they have (I can't think of any good way that would work on the switch) so yay!

Finally read/skimmed through this entire thread, and now I'm ready to start asking questions. My first question is with regards to sharing via server. No, this isn't about copyright content, but more about user-made content. See, my plan is to port MM2 PTC and remove all references to Mega Man, but keep the general functionality and features of it. One of the features was a level editor where folks can make their own levels and share them. With PTC, sharing was done by GRP saved/loaded from the SD card. Obviously this isn't something that can be done on the Switch with Nintendo restricting such save data to internal storage. I know we can upload our projects to the servers (given we have a ticket to do so, right?), but would one be able to share data made from a project in this same manner? And just in case we can only upload projects, could one technically make a "user-content" project that purely holds content made with other projects? Can we copy files created in one project to another project? Second is with regards to USB Keyboards and Mice. It has been noted that many wireless mice do not work (but no mention of wireless keyboards afaik). My plan was to buy a Logitech multi-device BT wireless keyboard/mouse combo, and use the USB receiver on the Switch dock since we can't use BT Keyboards/Mice directly. Has anyone tested what works?

To kind of answer your fisrt questions, in SB3 you can upload single files, and you can copy files between projects. I don't see why they would remove this in SB4, but because I don't have it yet I don't know for sure.
