How to format this? Alright first of all here's the biggest map I've managed to get into SB so far and i've just finished checking it and everything is there. This is the pc dump of the map:
Spoiler
Here's a slightly more digestible image showing what it looks like on 3ds: So what is Monster Tamer going to be like? Well, it's In development and it's going to feature hunting monsters and trying to tame them sort of like pokemon. It will hopefully have a sort of DAY/NIGHT weather system and I also plan to make/add more maps but the tileset might not change much unless i can find more royalty free non copyrighted tiles that work for what i'm going for. I may change the tileset up in the future but with my pc version map editor it would be easy to also modify the maps to suit this. What I need/want: Anyone who wants to help out can make music for it or help me up with ideas for the monster system if you want to help but i'll mainly be doing most of it myself. What to expect: Some shoddy collision and a pretty neat game about finding and hunting maybe even capturing rare or powerful and dangerous monsters. A few npcs. A shop Maybe some monsters will only be catch able at night. That's it for now enjoy the teaser. I'll be releasing the first KEY for monster tamer soon.

Teaser Photo--Weather I have some rain working here. It took a while but the weather system is next. Right now it's just Rain, i'll extend it to a thunder storm later if I can find a way to do lightning effects without too much hassle they'll probably look cheesy though. like a screen flash every so often. Enjoy the rain.

Progress post It looks like it has been two months since any news was posted officially about the project. It is still undergoing some design tweaks and isn't playable fully yet. I have considered the possibility of an even larger map system, and I am debating with myself on how to handle levels or map areas for dungeons. I may end up spending a large amount of time on graphics, so teasers ahead.. maybe. Meanwhile.. guess what. I've fixed the text display code, and set up a timer system. The timer system will allow events to be called based on a timer, I should note that timers will also allow time based events, and maybe even a day-night system as well as an upper and lower limit for how long certain weather should last. It may also allow for some other interesting tweaks such as using the hour of the day to change the hue. Or switch some tiles. A whole slew of not interesting yet updates is on it's way including an updated text displaying system and the first signs of NPCS. The code for this game will be somewhat polished when I am done with it and I have already fixed a few iffy (slightly major) bugs. The game also loads faster as part of some removal of obsolete code. In short.. the game will have some active text based systems. An item system, an npc system. Npcs will have names. Areas will be attached to one or more 'region's which will be X and Y definitions of the area. Linked maps will be possible soon (A large map area will lead to a smaller one for instance). The UI is in design right now but may be modified. Here is a screenshot of your 'start' menu:

The movement speed of text will be configurable as well for scrolling text. And the UI, might allow customization based on a few colors that you like.

I don't know if anyone reads this but here's an Update Post I've been working hard on and off on Monster Tamer... not just in code but in design concepts. Because the game design needs a lot of work. For you people today I have something of a spoiler to show off. This is called the "mysterious" tree. It's alive.. and when the game comes out you all better be kind to him.

Here's a slime concept art:

Here is the potential new player character model 1:

That's it really. For now. :).

Update Revised sprites yet again. I'm closer to the custom sprite style I want but it's iffy still:
Spoiler
That's it for now. So .. alot of animation failures and flukes.

Update Working on rolling out some music for monster tamer.. I have to actually teach myself to compose a bit , yes this project is DEMANDING. Oh and here's some tiles they're based on zelda but I hand-drew them so I doubt they're copyright! The tree is custom. Note: I said BASED on. They're not ripped or literal pixel color value clones.. even the structure of them is slightly different. Tiles

Also.. I am still busy with SmileNet but need to learn more about FFT. ALSO! I did recently finish the full world map design. I need to make atleast 500 unique tiles to graphically represent the monster tamer world map. I also need to digitally re-create monster tamer's world map so that I can show you guys. I don't want to show off crappy hand-drawn scribbles.

I really hated the way the flat 2d graphics looked... I want something that pops.. Hyptosis tiles have tempted me for a long time for a game but I never had a setting that would make using them appropriate.. Here is a screenshot of what i'm hoping will actually work in the model of the world I want to make:
Spoiler
Yes.. that's right uhm.. Monster tamer is going to look like this (and like other things) Because the game isn't going to use one single tileset.. it's going to use as variety of them depending on the map. The very large map Idea I had may not work in some cases where I need a full tileset to express or represent one specific setting out of many so I'll have to try my best to plan large maps for certain things and smaller ones for certain other things.. I can't even fit the rushing waterfall animations I wanted in this... so the overworld is going to be a little bit cramped but at the gain of much nicer graphics and hopefully a more enjoyable and charming gameplay scenario!

Update This is a crummy paste-together of some of the top part of the world map so far. (Please note it's actually gonna be pretty big)
Spoiler
The only reason it has those weird lines in the middle by the water is because I carelessly pasted this on. The map itself won't have those ^O^

So, I did some work on dungeon tiles for Monster Tamer out of boredom to see what I could do. I really want to work on Monster Tamer but there's so many things in the way and it's a huge game. Larger than Link's Awakening.
Spoiler
Edit: The tileset on the right is not the final tileset, and I don't own most of those so I'll likely try again to roll my own art. Art is what's holding Monster Tamer back and what got me kind of in a stump but now I'm trying again at most I'll use the tiles for the dungeon and the grass and make my own other tiles. Ugh I just want Monster Tamer to look pretty.
