I've always wanted to create a flight simulator. Now is my chance I guess... I'll see what I can do!

United Airlines Flight Simulator

The winner gets $40 (USD) in Nintendo eShop or Steam credit, 2nd place gets $20 * Everyone who enters an acceptable** entry will receive participation badges.
Why does the * have a space before it while the ** doesn't?

The * applies to the whole statement, the ** applies only to "acceptable"

I think that dictionary is missing a critical definition, "Flight" verb. to run away quickly. When the knight appeared to challenge him, Brave Sir Robin took flight. Another example of this of this in another tense is when Gandalf says "Fly you fools!". Sure it's OLD English... but with this interpretation, you could submit a Undertale (pacifism) type game where the main mechanic is to run from all fights.

Funny you mention it, I had wanted to incorporate that game into the contest but I wouldn't be able to recreate the battle system. That definition will be part of my entry, though. Perhaps after the contest I could see if I can make what you suggested.

Also you may want to stay away from the following due to technical difficulties or limitations:
  • Anything truly 3D
Challenge accepted. Maybe...

Yeah, throw people out of planes in mid-air. That'd be fun! Hit the rings and get extra points! No, but seriously, if I'm gonna finish this simulator, I'm gonna add some spicy easter eggs ;p

How I am when a programming contest pops up: "Okay, I have 30 days to make a game around the theme 'flight' heh, this will be easy!" Day 1-5: I'm going to watch youtube, I still have loads of time to work on a game. Day 5-10: I'm feeling bored, I don't really want to program, so I'll play some video games. Day 10-15: Man I am so tired! I just did a ton of homework/housework...I'm going to chat with friends. Day 15-20: Oh shoot I should work on my entry now...Or tomorrow. Day 20-25: Oh man! This anime is really good! I'll only watch a couple episodes... Day 26-27: Ugh! I can't figure how to fix this bug, *Sigh* I need a break. Day 28: WTF?! 2 Days left?! Why are these contest so short! Now I need to throw together a game fast! Day 30: Some else won...Who cares? I got the participation badge! All that hard work paid off. =P

That's why normally I don'y bother too much with contests, since I know I can't make something good in time. But when I actually spend time into it, I can make something decent in a month.

Agreed.

This is some pinpoint accuracy. I can't make up my mind for what I'm making. Prepare for a maybe-I-procrastinated game.

No no no, you're supposed to get like 1/3 of the way finished with your entry, and THEN do all the procrastinating and never actually finish.

this is exactly right.

We are now at the half way point, T-15 days until deadline. Plenty of time to watch all 4 seasons of Parks and Rec again. I would like to take a moment to announce my entry: A.S.T.E.R.O.G.U.E. (ass-ter-roh-ghug) ((yes I know there is only one "R")) --Screenshot of prototype Title screen pending-- A top down Plane VS UFO game similar to Asteroids... but with only the cardinal directions of travel, because it's text based. (plus lower all expectations as not only is this my first "real-time" game but also I only started on may 7... still plenty of time to make something kind of nice though.) And for all you beginners out there, look forward to a fully annotated code, as there should be no doubt in explaining everything on how I made this game! (and I don't plan on making custom music for the game, unless I have lots of extra time.)

Is it fine if my entry is only compatible with n3DS / Wii U? Because this time I won't be able to make it work in time for o3DS.

I would be surprised if it wasn't "fine", you might get a faster response if you PM random...
