YolkaiCreated:
Happy Summer, SmileBASIC Source, and welcome to the first ever official SBS programming contest! The challenge theme for this contest is "colors". You may interpret this however you like, but your program must incorporate or utilize color in a meaningful way somehow. I have no doubt that you will find a creative way to explore this idea of "colors". The deadline is in one month, on August 5th, 2016. To submit a program during this submission period, just create a program page and add your program to the Programming Contest category. See the image below for help with submitting. After the submission period ends, voting will begin, and all eligible entries will be open for user selection of the best examples of programs and their use of "color". Prizes are available for the top two submissions:
  • 1st place: $40 in Steam or Nintendo eShop games/credit
  • 2nd place: $20 in Steam or Nintendo eShop games/credit
If there are not enough entries, no prizes will be awarded. For more details, see "additional prize information" below. How to submit: Additional submission information
  • Entries need not have been created completely from scratch for this contest, but ARE required to be original and of a reasonable quality for the time provided. For example, SmileBoy, in development for many months now, is not eligible, nor is an unannounced RPG with last-minute graphics changes to be "colorful". A game based off of a half-complete physics engine and old unused sprites, however, may be acceptable.
  • Only one submission is allowed per person. Your "submission" is the public key you provide with your entry.
  • Need inspiration for incorporating "color"? Try looking at Treasure's Silhouette Mirage color-swapping mechanic, or MadWorld's very limited but purposeful use of red on a grayscale landscape.
Additional prize information
  • International (outside the US) entries are welcome, however, if an international entrant places for a prize, method of transfer may be limited by regional restrictions. If an alternative cannot be found, the winner may not be able to receive their prize.
  • If less than 10 entries are received, no prizes will be distributed.
  • Prizes will be distributed to winners via code sent through site private messages (https://smilebasicsource.com/messagebox)
  • If a winner chooses a Steam gift as their method of award retrieval, the total expense must not exceed the amount ($40 first prize/$20 second prize) allotted. This may mean only receiving a game worth $36, if the numbers comes out such. These prizes were provided for by ad revenue.
Additional voting information
  • Contest votes will be monitored to prevent cheating and the voting period will be open for two weeks. Please try as many entries as you can to be able to cast your vote fairly.
  • Please do not create any of your own polls regarding the contest, as they may have to be removed to prevent issues.
If you have any questions that haven't been covered by this information, don't hesitate to ask below. Good luck to all of you! And don't forget to have fun with this, the theme begs it! (read this post in English (UK) ->)

Ah. Sometimes I get confused; Sorry!
Oh ok.

Maybe I can actually buy sticker star now. so I can criticize the heck out of it obviously.

we're all gonna die someday everyone real soon Colors are cool I guess.

nice to see this thread start off with a bunch of waste posts Contests are nice, and "colors" is a theme that's vague enough to allow interpretation but not so vague that it's impossible. And actual prizes too.

Ooh Stardew Valley here I come!

Question. Can we submit more than one program?

Question. Can we submit more than one program?
Hum... I think no. One entry per person, alts will get both disqualified. If this rule needs to be changed later, I will.

What if you want to update/replace entry before due date?

This should be fine. You'll have to specify that you changed to an updated key, though. In fact, let me revise this. You may change your entry at any time while submission is open, but you may only have ONE KEY submitted. Whatever final key you have at the deadline will be your one entry.

You can't get SmileBASIC in the UK or anywhere in Europe for that matter

i realize i haven't used PTC/smilebasic in like almost a year, but this contest has me motivated. good luck guys.

Does my game have to specifically have a color based mechanic, or can it just be visually appealing? I have an idea but it doesn't have a very color specific gameplay element, but I want to try to make it very colorful.

Haha a few months ago I remade Pacman and made it Epilepsy Edition where it was constantly changing color and no one I knew wanted to even play it
